Job Description

Overview: The Crane Operator position is a vital part of the Sawmill team and process. The Crane operator interacts with the Scale house and Log truck drivers daily and is responsible for unloading, stacking and feeding logs into the mill. Proper stacking and wood rotation are vital to the operation of the Mill. The ability to perform some preventive maintenance and inspections will be required.

Job Duties

• Communicate with the Scale house, Truck drivers, and other operators.
• Daily completion of Pre-use inspection sheets and Log Tally sheets.
• Safely unloading log trucks.
• Safely and properly stacking wood under the cranes to allow for proper wood rotation where the oldest wood can be used first.
• Safely and proper loading of the stem decks. Loading the stem low and close to the wall while following the proper wood rotation.
• Perform Preventative maintenance and inspections.
• Keep your workspace clear and free from debris and trash.
• Clearly communicate all issues immediately so that they can be properly addressed. (maintenance and operational)
• Participate in housekeeping or operation of the Mill as needed.

Job Requirements

• The ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.
• Able to work weekdays, weekends, nights and holidays if needed.
• Works and communicates well with others.
• The ability to accurately fill out inspection and tally sheets.
• Self-motivated and able to work by yourself.
• Able to work with and get along with several parts of the mill teams. (Procurement, Operations and Maintenance)

Education and/or Experience

• 1 year or more of Crane operation experience. (log crane or equivalent)
• Experience working in PM system.

• Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective partnerships
• Knowledge of lumber manufacturing processes and equipment
